Last month, a research visit of Dr. Pier Luigi Buttigieg and his student Raïssa Meyer from Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI) to Pensoft took place. This visit laid the groundwork for future collaborations related to omic data and metadata integration, as well as semantic modelling of ecology information extracted from academic articles. Researchers from Pensoft and MPI discussed existing metadata standards and suggested improvements which could be made to them to make metadata interoperable. This research visit and collaboration was a result of several talks during the Biodiversity Next conference in October 2019, which showcases the importance of networking.
